Humanitarian Assistance and Resilience in South Sudan (HARISS) 2015 - 2020

UK Department for International Development

To help approximately three million South Sudanese by providing critical life-saving support and helping people to better cope with shocks from conflict, drought and flooding. This programme aims to save the lives of an estimated two million people who will receive at least one form of humanitarian assistance; and build the capacity of an estimated one million people to recover and cope better with shocks. Over five years this programme will provide food, shelter and access to water and health services to millions of vulnerable people, including women and children.

Providing Humanitarian Assistance in Sahel Emergencies (PHASE)

Responding to Protracted Crisis in Sudan: Humanitarian Reform, Assistance & Resilience Programme

Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak - UK Response

The current Ebola outbreak in DRC is the second largest recorded outbreak, and has been running since May 2018. Case numbers continue to increase and the outbreak is expected to continue until at least the end of 2019. The UK response to Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak #10 programme has four primary aims: * to curb the Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak #10 in DRC as quickly as possible; * to minimise loss of life and impact on communities; * to ensure no onward transmission outside of DRC; and * to be prepared to act rapidly should a cross-border transmission occur.

Safety, Support and Solutions – Phase 2

This programme provides life-saving humanitarian aid including food, medical care and protection services to vulnerable migrants along key migration routes towards Europe. It will raise awareness of the dangers of crossing the Sahara and the Mediterranean Sea and will assist those who decide to return home to do so safely. It will offer sustainable reintegration support to help returnees rebuild their lives and deter risky remigration. Through the provision of data analysis and training it will support governments to improve the management of migration and make it safer, for example by building their capacity to identify and protect asylum seekers and refugees, and tackle people trafficking.

Humanitarian Emergency Response Operations and Stabilisation Programme (HEROS)

Conflict Stability and Security Fund - Iraq Stabilisation and Resilience

To respond to the needs of communities in areas reclaimed from Daesh, and improve the capacity of the Iraqi government to implement recovery and stabilisation activities to ensure displaced communities can return to their homes safely. This will be achieved by restoring access to basic services (water, health, electricity, education) in liberated areas, and improving livelihoods of communities affected by conflict through cash for work programmes, small business grants and vocational training. This programme will improve governance through facilitating a dialogue between local government and communities, and provide technical assistance that will enable the international community to better target stabilisation activities and assistance. It will also improve understanding of drivers of migration within Iraq and from Iraq to Europe through research. It will also ensure third party monitoring to programmes to improve performance and reduce the risk of misuse of funds.

Safety, Support and Solutions Programme for Refugees and Migrants in Europe and the Mediterranean region.

The aim of this programme is to provide lifesaving assistance and protection to vulnerable migrants and refugees during the Mediterranean migration crisis. Activities include the provision of protection services as well as basic services such as shelter, healthcare, water, sanitation and hygiene for refugee and migrant populations at risk, particularly targeting vulnerable groups such as women, girls and unaccompanied children. The programme will also improve systems for offering migrants durable solutions, including restoring family links and reintegration support. It will enhance the quality of information for beneficiaries and improve beneficiary feedback mechanisms. This programme includes emergency assistance to migrants and refugees arriving in Europe – however this funding does not go through EU mechanisms.

Reducing Insecurity and Violent Extremism in Northern and Coastal regions of Kenya (RE-INVENT)

RE-INVENT is a £20m 5-year programme that aims to enhance Kenyan capacity and capability to address inter-communal conflict, weak community-police relations, violence against women and girls (VAWG), violent extremism and election related violence. It will support the continued advancement of police reforms to improve the management, oversight and accountability of the police force. The geographical focus will be in twelve counties: Northern (Turkana, West Pokot, Baringo, Samburu, Isiolo, Marsabit, Laikipia), North-Eastern (Mandera, Wajir and Garissa) and Coast (Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Lamu and Tana River). The programme will build on the experience of the Jamii Thabiti Programme (2014-19), also known as the Kenya Improving Community Security Programme (ICS), and expand DFID support across more counties. It will support new areas of work including on conflict sensitivity, pastoral livelihoods and combating violent extremism.
