UK Aid Match II - 2016-2020 is the next phase of DFID’s UK Aid Match scheme and has a budget of up to £157 million. UK Aid Match is DFID’s fund to increase UK public engagement in international development, while simultaneously reducing poverty and achieving the Global Goals in priority countries through funded civil society organisations. DFID aims to provide opportunities for the UK public to have a say in how UK aid is spent by offering to match every £1 donated by the public to a UK Aid Match charity appeal. CSOs use the match funding raised in the appeals to implement projects that improve the lives of some of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people. In the first phase of the UK Aid Match 2013 - 2016, a total of 62 grants were awarded to CSOs, working in 22 countries, and 3.6 million public donations were matched. Under the next phase of the scheme, UK Aid Match II, DFID would like to see an increase in the number and diversity of CSOs accessing UK Aid Match funding, a more diversified subsection of the public being reached by the appeals and engaged in international development, and more innovative or non-challenge fund methods being explored. The next phase of the scheme will have broader country eligibility criteria, which will include countries in the bottom 50 of the Human Development Index and countries that DFID considers to be highly or moderately fragile. In January 2018, DFID selected a MannionDaniels’ led consortium as Fund Manager for the next phase of UK Aid Match. The consortium partners are Education Development Trust, Oxford Policy Management, KIT Royal Tropical Institute and The Social Change Agency.

Funded by the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID), UK Aid Direct was established in 2014 as a successor to the Global Poverty Action Fund (GPAF), which was created in 2010. UK Aid Direct is a challenge fund designed to support the UK’s commitments to achieving the Global Goals. The aim of UK Aid Direct is to fund small- and medium-sized national and international civil society organisations (CSOs) to reduce poverty and work towards achieving the Global Goals. Specifically, UK Aid Direct funding reaches the most marginalised and vulnerable populations, supporting the DFID agenda to ‘leave no one behind’. This agenda can be achieved through funding projects that encompass service delivery, economic empowerment, strengthening accountability or generating social change. As a flexible fund, UK Aid Direct is designed to be an adaptive and demand-led fund that responds to DFID priorities of:\n\n- Strengthening global peace, security and governance\n\n- Strengthening resilience and response to crisis\n\n- Promoting global prosperity\n\n- Tackling extreme poverty and helping the world’s most vulnerable\n\n- Delivering value for money
The programme works with government and civil society at federal and state levels to reduce inefficiency and corruption in the use of Nigerian resources and therefore improve delivery of services, including for women, girls and persons with disability. It does this in partnership with other DFID programmes supporting service delivery by helping Nigerian stakeholders improve accountability for use of resources including improving processes for raising revenue, allocating resources, planning and programme implementation.
To support the scale up of the Productive Social Safety Net which will reach 1 million households, and these households are the poorest 15%. through the provision of conditional Cash Transfers, Green Public Works and Livelihood Enhancement. This programme will aim to improve the opportunities available to the poorest communities by reducing the depth of income poverty, improving food consumption and increasing their resilience to climate-related shocks. To increase participation and the quality of secondary education by providing disadvantaged girls with secondary level scholarships and Colleges of Education with targeted support to improve teacher education and management. This will benefit 81,000 girls and 38 Colleges of Education and improve gender parity and quality of teaching and learning. This is business case 2/3 which implements the DFID Humanitarian Innovation and Evidence Strategy. This programme will develop and test innovative approaches to humanitarian practice; provide evidence of the cost effectiveness of investments in disaster risk reduction; provide new evidence on the scaling up of cash-based approaches; support better evidence on insurance as a risk management tool; and create new evidence on the best intervention to improve health and nutrition in emergencies.This is one of three business cases which implements the DFID Humanitarian Innovation and Evidence Strategy. Between 2000-2009, more than 2.2 billion people were affected by 4,484 natural disasters. Vulnerability to hazards is increasing as a result of demographic, political and environmental changes. Accountability in Tanzania Phase Two (AcT2) Programme is a five year £38m, innovative and exciting programme whose purpose is to increase the responsiveness and accountability of Government in Tanzania, through a strengthened civil society. AcT2 seeks to support civil society organisations (CSOs) to implement context-specific strategic interventions that will enable them to influence positive change in the attitudes and behaviour of citizens, civil society and government, making government as a whole more responsive and accountable. The second phase started in February 2018 and will end in December 2022. The programme funds mid-to-large sized Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and is managed by KPMG Advisory Limited in Tanzania. The programme works with CSO partners supporting Tanzanian citizens to engage with and hold their government to account. This is crucial to fostering a well-functioning state that acts in the best interests of its people - in tackling corruption, efficient spending of public resources and delivering effective public services. The Tanzanian President has made anti-corruption his top priority. AcT2 partners seeks to deploy different tools and resources to equip citizens to challenge corruption rather than accept it. AcT2 programme underlines the need to bolster groups that can continue to champion pluralism, articulate the demands of citizens, and engage in constructive debate and negotiation with government. As an integrated and cohesive civil society offer, AcT2 enables DFID to deliver greater impact from our wider portfolio priorities in human development and sustainable growth teams and promoting democratic space. It will do this through focusing on governance blockages in these areas, with a focus on promoting accountability and social inclusion, especially focusing on gender, disability and youth/elderly groups. The programme has ambition to deploy different innovative approaches including policy research, advocacy, dialogue, experimentation, and brokering, and it will work with civil society, private sector actors, elected officials and faith-based groups. The four thematic priorities for the programme includes: • Civic Space (sector policy dialogues, media, voice, CS advocacy, human rights) • Social Inclusion (disability, women, girls and youth/elderly) • Anti-Corruption • Climate Change
To provide small grants to vulnerable households especially those with disabled and elderly persons in order for them to have regular monthly income to take care of their basic needs
The UK will generate new evidence on ‘what works’ to transform the lives of poor adolescent girls to enable them to move out of poverty. Results will directly inform DFID and other international and national actors to develop or revise policies and programmes to effectively reach adolescent girls. It will enable girls to have increased voice, choice, and control over their lives in at least 4 DFID priority countries and lead to reduction in early and forced marriage, reduction in violence, and improved economic wellbeing. Evidence will lead to an increase in donor and national investments for girls.
To provide programme management, administration and monitoring support to the Deepening Democracy Programme. Management of the overall programme will entail managing all grantees, partnerships with multilateral and bilateral partners etc. To manage the implementation of both the electoral and non-electoral accountability.
GAGE is a nine-year (2015-2024) mixed methods longitudinal research and evaluation programme following the lives of adolescents in diverse developing country contexts. GAGE will generate new evidence on ‘what works’ to enable poor adolescent girls to emerge from poverty and fast-track social change for themselves, their families and communities and their countries. The programme is funded by UK aid from the UK government.

To support Sustainable reduction in water insecurity in developing countries by producing robust and accessible evidence for governments, municipalities and other investment\policy decision makers and therefore long term, improved wellbeing for poor people dependent on water for livelihoods, health, environmental services in Africa and South Asia. This contributes towards our MDGs by providing efficient and sustainably managed water systems which will support increased water security for between 2.5 - 5 million people, while helping sustain and preserve water resources by 2021.
To increase the impact on job creation and incomes in developing countries of the policies and programmes of DFID, the World Bank, other donors, development finance institutions and NGOs. Working primarily through a World Bank Trust Fund on Jobs this programme will strengthen the international community’s work by engaging with governments and the private sector, on issues including youth employment, fragile states and improving data on jobs.

To improve the use of public resources to deliver services that benefit the poor and make the Government of Democratic Republic of Congo more accountable by making the national expenditure process more efficient, enhancing external and internal controls on the use of public funds, and supporting four (pre 2015) provinces in managing their funds more effectively. This will benefit Democratic Republic of Congo citizens as a whole, and in particular the provinces of Equateur, Kasai Oriental, Kinshasa and North Kivu.
To provide up to 150 junior economists/statisticians to work in developing country Governments and organisations. Every economist/statistician is placed in a developing country Government/organisation Department for 2 years to provide technical economic/statistical support and advice for improved policy making and value for money (economy, efficiency, cost-effectiveness and effectiveness) of service delivery and systems. Building skills and understanding of sound management, transparency and analytical principles amongst staff, they enhance a Department/organisation’s technical capacity, keeping it up to date with new ideas and systems to continue to deliver better outputs for all citizens including the very poor.
