Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund, 2014-2018

To improve the lives of the Afghan people by providing financial support to improve the Government of Afghanistan’s capability to implement development projects and reforms. This will benefit people in all provinces of Afghanistan by improving access to basic services, infrastructure, governance and community representation. This contributes to MDGs 1-5 through a range of interventions, and will remain the main mechanism for coordinated donor support to Afghanistan for many years to come.

Productive Safety Net Programme Phase 4

To reduce hunger, improve livelihoods and reduce the risk of famine in rural Ethiopia by (i) providing cash and food transfers, livelihoods advice and access to microfinance to 1.2 million extremely poor Ethiopians and (ii) creating local infrastructure which reverses environmental degradation and improves access to markets and basic services. 85% of participant households receive transfers as wages for labour on public works projects (including 32,000 km of hillside terraces, 3,000 km of rural roads and 400 new or expanded schools); while the remainder (the elderly, those with disabilities, and pregnant women) receive cash and / or food without a labour requirement. This programme contributes towards national and international development goals and DFID’s own targets for reducing poverty and hunger and for building household resilience to climate change and other shocks.

Strategic Partnership Arrangement II between DFID and BRAC

To provide support to BRAC’s development programmes to improve access to quality basic services (health, education, water and sanitation), help the poorest, most marginalised people across the whole of Bangladesh graduate from extreme poverty, support inclusive growth and help build effective formal and informal institutions. UK support will include: helping over 950,000 children (600,000 girls) gain a decent education; providing additional nutritional support to 11 million people (7 million women and girls); helping 5.7 million girls and women gain access to family planning services; providing at least 75,000 people with sustainable access to clean water and sanitation; and lifting 240,000 women and their families (over 960,000 people) out of extreme poverty.

UK Aid Match 2013–2016: giving the public a say in how a portion of the aid budget is spent

UK Aid Match allows the UK public to have a say in how an element of the aid budget is spent. DFID will match fund, pound for pound, public donations to appeals made by selected not-for-profit organisations, enabling them to increase their poverty reduction and development work in DFID priority countries.

Hunger Safety Net Programme

To reduce poverty, hunger and vulnerability by providing the poorest households in Kenya's arid and semi-arid lands with cash transfers. Land Investment For Transformation - Wealth Creation Programme

Northern Uganda: Transforming the Economy through Climate Smart Agribusiness (NU-TEC)

To increase the resilience to climate change of poor farmers in Northern Uganda, and to increase their incomes. This will be achieved by working with agricultural businesses to supply farmers with cheaper, better and more varied agricultural inputs and services, and to create stronger markets for farmer produce. This will benefit 250,000 households in Northern Uganda, who will adopt new practices, products and markets that will make them more resilient to climate change, while 150,000 households will see measurable increases to income. This will contribute to the MDGs (and their successor targets) by reducing poverty in Uganda.

DFID will pursue actions globally to improve land rights protection to: help ensure women and men enjoy legally recognised, secure property and tenure rights. To Improve information and knowledgeto facilitate the provision of clear, transparent land related information and knowledge, enabling rights to be identified, understood and protected. To improve private sector investment through the development and rollout of a standardized investment risk assessment methodology and implementation of best practice in land governance.
