To promote economic development and opportunities in Jordan for the benefit of both Jordanians and Syrian refugees. This programme will attract new inward investment and open up economic markets for Jordanian goods and services, creating new jobs for Jordanians and Syrian refugees as set out in the Jordan Compact. The programme will also help Jordanian hosts maintain their resilience and economic stability.
The ‘Ethiopian Jobs Compact’ will support the Government of Ethiopia’s industrialisation efforts, creating over 100,000 jobs for Ethiopians and refugees residing in the country. The Compact will match international support for job creation in Ethiopia to the gradual relaxation of the limitations on labour market access for 30,000 refugees. The job creation elements of the Compact would focus on Ethiopia’s ambitious industrialisation plans. This would support improvements in the investment climate, investment promotion, and improving environmental and social standards in the manufacturing sector. This would create over 100,000 jobs, mainly for young women, in global value chains such as garments and textiles. Support to refugees would include the necessary legislative changes but also training, relocation, rehousing and protection measures for this vulnerable group. It is anticipated that some of these employment opportunities for refugees would be in the manufacturing sector.
To improve road access for 800,000 members of rural communities in the Western Region of Nepal, thereby improving economic opportunities and increasing access to markets and social services throughout the year. The project will lift 20,000 people out of poverty through access to work, skill trainings, and will promote equal opportunities for women. The project aims to contribute towards sustainable poverty reduction through investments in high value crops and will lay the foundations for private sector led development in the poorest region in the country. Climate variability and climate change are integrated in building new roads and maintaining existing roads through the programme.
To promote rights and equality for 1.64 million people in Bangladesh who are at the highest risk of being excluded, including poor women and girls, people with disabilities, ethnic and religious minorities, ‘Dalits’ (untouchables), children working in vulnerable situations (including modern slavery) and youth. The programme will increasingly focus on social cohesion. The partner supports a network of organisations to defend and enhance poor, minorities and other marginalised people’s rights and enabling them to access to assets, public services (e.g. health, education) and economic opportunities. The programme also works with local level service providers to help them meet their responsibilities and assist communities to monitor their performance. Where opportunities arise, the programme will contribute to the development of policies and laws that uphold the rights of the poor and excluded groups in society.
This programme will work to strengthen voice and accountability for women's rights and young people. It will address the root causes of disadvantage, discrimination and exclusion working with communities, civil society, government institutions and the UN. It will work to shift damaging social norms, attitudes and behaviours at the individual, institutional and societal levels to improve gender equality and youth participation.
To increase the impact on job creation and incomes in developing countries of the policies and programmes of DFID, the World Bank, other donors, development finance institutions and NGOs. Working primarily through a World Bank Trust Fund on Jobs this programme will strengthen the international community’s work by engaging with governments and the private sector, on issues including youth employment, fragile states and improving data on jobs.
Supporting the economic opportunities component of the Jordan Compact through a range of activities to strengthen the Jordan labour market including job matching and vocational training for both Jordanians and Syrians.
To reduce vunerabilility to trafficking and forced labour of women and girls across migration pathways leading to the care sector and textiles, clothing, leather and footwear industries of South Asia and the Arab States. At least 350,000 women and girls will be reached at source and destination in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon and Jordan.
