Education Quality Improvement Programme in Bangladesh EQUIP-B

To improve the quality of primary and secondary education through needs-based, targeted technical assistance (TA) via Education Quality Improvement Programme in Bangladesh (EQUIP-B). EQUIP-B will contribute to strengthen education system’s efficiency and effectiveness, specifically targeting improved learning outcomes and girls’ retention in primary and secondary education. Major focus areas include improved teachers’ skills and efficiency, learning assessment, girls’ friendly school environment, develop integrated data management system and its use, and evidence-based influencing of policies and programmes.
Scaling Access and Learning in Education (SCALE)

SCALE will bring together UK-led expertise, funding, support, and influence to increase the uptake of cost-effective interventions that deliver foundational learning outcomes for all, especially disadvantaged girls and boys. Partner governments will be offered demand-driven support to adapt evidence-based interventions to new contexts and implement rigorous test-learn-adapt pilots to ready these for scaling in national systems. The focus on scale and sustainability will multiply the UK’s investment over time. This will accelerate progress against the UK-led G7 girls’ education objectives on access and learning.
Myanmar UK Partnership for Education

MUPE is to improve the reach and quality of education services in Burma and help prepare Burma’s youth with the skills they need for life after school. MUPE has gone through 3 significant changes: 1) ODA reductions in 2019/20 2) Covid19 pandemic in 2020 and 3) military coup in Myanmar in 2021. Due to those significant changes, the programme was reshaped with only two components remaining (with one not having financial contribution) at the closure. The funded component which lasted till the closure of MUPE was MEC (Myanmar Education Consortium), which was maintained due to its relevance to the changed context and the ability to respond to challenging context.
Girls Education Challenge (Phase II)

This Girls' Education Challenge Phase 2 will enable up to 1 million marginalised girls (currently supported through Phase 1) to continue to learn, complete primary school and transition on to secondary education. A further 500,000 highly marginalised adolescent girls, who are out of school, will also be targeted to gain literacy, numeracy and other skills relevant for life and work. It is estimated that at least 400,000 girls will complete junior secondary school in the first four years of the extension. The extension will build on what we have learnt so far in Phase 1 and further deepen global understanding of what works for girls’ education, particularly during adolescence and in the transition from education to work.
Syria Education Programme II (SEP II)

The programme will enhance the equitability of the education system in Northwest Syria, delivering on the UK’s commitments to improve girls’ education.
Sustainable Cooling and Cold Chain Solutions

This activity supports a number of different areas of work which aim to accelerate the climate benefits of the Kigali Amendment (KA) to the Montreal Protocol (MP) and encourage uptake of energy efficient and climate friendly solutions. This includes (1) The creation of an African Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Cooling and Cold Chains (ACES) in Rwanda. ACES will accelerate deployment of sustainable (environmental, economic and social) cold-chain solutions throughout Africa. (2) The development and deployment of an HFC outlook model to address information gaps on energy use and energy related CO2 emissions from the refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pumps (RACHP) market. It will assist in reducing cost of the transition for Article 5 countries to the Montreal Protocol and increase the climate benefit of action under the MP. (3) Increasing countries technical capacity and providing insights on global best practice of EE improvements of cooling products in parallel with HFC phase down, through model regulations and sustainable public procurement in ASEAN and Africa.
Better Education STatistics and global Action to improve learning (BESTA).

To address the global learning crisis in education, this joint policy and research programme will: 1) Establish new global learning indicators, including a new education lead indicator, through support to the UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS), the People's Action for Learning (PAL) network, and other partners working to improve learning and equity data across DFID's focus countries. 2) Improve analysis and use of data on learning and equity, through supporting four more annual Global Education Monitoring Reports. 3) Transform research methods through a partnership with the UK National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM) 4) Support emerging global initiatives to tackle other priority barriers to learning
UK Support to Palestinian Refugees(UKSPR) 2022-2025

To provide predictable, multi-year funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees in the Near East which will help the agency deliver basic education including to girls, health services including family planning, vaccines and pre-natal and anti-natal services, relief services and humanitarian aid to more than 5.6 million Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
Good Governance Fund (Phase 3) Eastern Neighbourhood: Supporting Governance and Economic Reform

The Good Governance Fund Phase 3 will deliver demand-led support to governance reforms that allow open societies and economies to flourish. The Good Governance Fund will focus on improving democratic and economic governance, primarily through strategically targeted technical assistance. The Good Governance Fund programme will deliver interventions on a flexible basis, based on identified needs and/or requests from government counterparts or civil society in beneficiary countries (Armenia, Georgia and Moldova) in support of governance and economic reforms. This will support delivery and seek to prevent/reverse democratic backsliding. The Good Governance Fund is part of an integrated portfolio of programmes operating in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Directorate region and supports the delivery of four National Security Council strategies and the Integrated Review.

Young Lives At Work, improved understanding of the effect of educational opportunities on labour market outcomes

This globally respected research programme provides high impact open access and gender dissagregated data on educational access and outcomes, skills and transition to labour markets. Data over 15 years allows us to follow the paths of 12,000 children from early years through adolescence and into early adulthood, gaining valuable insights on educational trajectories and access to higher education and labour market entry.
Accelerating Action to End Child Marriage Programme Phase 2

This will be the UK’s second global, multi-sectoral programme to tackle child marriage and respond to its consequences. This programme will provide £18 million to deliver interventions across high prevalence countries, including fragile and conflict affected states, to prevent child marriages, lower global prevalence rates and support already married girls to have improved life outcomes. The programme will enable girls to take greater control over their lives and bodies. It will contribute to increased access to education for girls, reduced adolescent pregnancy and maternal deaths and a range of broader development outcomes. In addition, the programme will strengthen the international evidence base on what works to prevent child marriage and increase use of this evidence by a range of actors. This will in turn increase the effectiveness and efficiency of wider interventions aiming to end child marriage.
Defence Education - Working in the maritime Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)

This is an MOD course, delivered by the Defence Academy is designed specifically to relate to working and /or serving in the international maritime Exclusive Economic Zone, as defined by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the sea, with a particular focus on the range and use of applications of international law with respect to the scope of conduct of activity in the Exclusive Economic Zone. Working in the maritime Exclusive Economic Zone course also covers aspects of disaster relief preparedness.

Defence Education - Initial Officer Training

The Initial Officer Training course has been specifically designed for individuals who have recently joined the military. This is the initial period of training undertaken by officers newly recruited into the Armed Forces, whether it be into the Army, Navy or Air Force. Limited elements of the course, for example relating to protection of civilians in conflict or international humanitarian law, are reported as ODA - approximately 5% of the course is therefore ODA eligible.
Defence Education - Strategic Leadership Programme

Strategic Leadership Programme: This is a short course for serving military and civilian personnel, and it seeks to improve leadership skills, and to encourage participants to exercise leadership in a responsible manner that reflects (in particular) the topics of human rights, rule of law, democratic control and civilian oversight. Aspects of the Strategic Leadership Programme course also touch on delivery of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, anti- corruption and transparency, and international humanitarian law. Relevant aspects of the course are reported as ODA.

The course contributes to the development of senior leaders and seeks to improve their ability to deal with security challenges in an effective and responsible manner, including by addressing issues such as human rights and rule of law, international humanitarian law, protection of civilians in conflict, anti-corruption and transparency, civilian oversight and democratic control of Armed Forces.
